The 2016 Toyota Yaris is pitted against the Hyundai Accent and both of these small hatchbacks are affordable. But which is the better value? If you keep reading, you will see why the Toyota Yaris is the car to buy!
If you want a versatile vehicle that will make quick work of transporting cargo, a hatchback is the way to go, and you will be surprised at how much stuff you can easily fit into even a subcompact hatchback model. The 2016 Toyota Yaris is available in two styles, a sporty three-door hatchback and an ultra-versatile five-door hatchback. The Yaris’ three-door model is great if you frequently carry more stuff than people and the single passenger doors on each side offer a sporty, fun look that has all but vanished from the subcompact hatchback segment. Meanwhile, the five-door Yaris makes transporting people easy, and with the hatchback rear door, you can still get quite a lot of cargo inside as well, even with a full house of passengers. The Hyundai Accent is available as either a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. Unfortunately, its hatchback variation doesn’t offer as much versatility as the hatchback and both sedan and hatchback Accent models come across as a little dull. Headroom in the Hyundai Accent sedan is also pretty tight, unlike the two Yaris models, which are both very spacious inside. Point goes to the 2016 Toyota Yaris for versatility and interior space!
Small hatchbacks are great city cars, and one of the things that makes them so popular for city-dwelling commuters is their great fuel economy. However, not all small hatchbacks are created equal, and fuel economy numbers vary across the segment. The 2016 Toyota Yaris offers excellent fuel economy number in both its manual transmission and automatic transmission variations. The 2016 Toyota Yaris can return up to 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway with its five-speed manual transmission. With the four-speed automatic transmission in the 2016 Toyota Yaris, you can earn up to 30 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. That city number is pretty great and will make your daily commutes much easier when you don’t have to stop for gas during morning rush hour. In the Hyundai Accent, you will get only 27 mpg in the city with the manual transmission and 26 mpg in the city with the automatic gearbox. The Hyundai Accent does a little better on the highway with both transmissions, but factoring in combined city/highway ratings, the Yaris has it beat by two mpg with the manual (33 versus 31 mpg) and two mpg with the automatic (32 versus 30 mpg). Our bet is that your commute consists of both city and highway driving, so our money is on the 2016 Yaris in this battle, and yours should be, too.
If you are looking for a great value, the 2016 Toyota Yaris is it! This Euro-styles little hatchback offers a wide range of features both standard and optional, including some advanced tech features that the Hyundai Accent doesn’t have anywhere on its roster. In the 2016 Yaris you will find standard air conditioning, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, HD radio with iTunes tagging, Bluetooth, an adjustable front passenger seat, front seat map lights, a 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, and dual extendable sun visors. You can also opt for leather seating and trim in the higher Yaris trims. The Hyundai Accent does not offer a standard audio display screen at all, the front passenger’s seat does not adjust, you don’t get map lights, and Bluetooth is optional in all but the highest trim. The Hyundai Accent also saddles you with cloth upholstery in every trim and does not offer a navigation system in any trim. That’s another point to the Toyota Yaris!
